How Healthy Is Much Better?

A distributor stocking dates into office snack boxes or small retail counters isn't solving the same problem as a home buyer. The question is restock cadence, not which dates taste best.

Working out a draw-down rate

A snack box serving 20-30 people typically draws down a 1kg tray of loose dates in five to eight working days, depending on what else is in the box competing for attention. Track the actual empty-tray date for a few cycles before committing to a fixed restock schedule — guessing the cadence from box size alone usually overstocks the first few rounds.

Why overstocking is a real cost here, not a minor one

Loose dates in an open tray dry out and harden faster than sealed retail packs once exposed to office air conditioning, so a tray restocked too infrequently loses quality before it's finished, and a tray restocked too often means write-offs on the unfinished portion. Sealed smaller trays swapped more often usually beat one large tray topped up occasionally.

Grade choice for a shared snack box

Semi-soft, mild grades work better in a shared box than an intensely sweet or very firm grade — fewer people leave a semi-soft date half-eaten in the tray. Our grading guide breaks down which grades sit at the milder end if that's the brief.

Sourcing at the volume this actually needs

Green Diamond supplies at tray-restock volume rather than single-bag retail sizes, which is the actual order size a distributor running multiple snack-box accounts needs. Check our Medjool pricing guide before quoting Medjool into a premium account — it's priced well above the milder grades suited to a shared box.
