Chiropractic, Children And Healthy Eating

Fresh dates in a small bowl, a healthy snack

Since online classes became a regular Wednesday fixture, my daughter’s desk chair has taken more punishment than the school gym ever managed. Two hours hunched toward a laptop screen, elbows on the desk, chin dropping lower with every passing worksheet.

The posture reminder that actually gets ignored

I’ve tried sticky notes on the monitor. I’ve tried a timer that beeps every twenty minutes. Both get ignored within a week. What finally worked was less a reminder and more a routine: a five-minute break, standing up, and a small snack, roughly every hour.

The chiropractor visit came out of one of those Wednesday sessions, actually — a routine appointment for something unrelated, where the practitioner mentioned that a lot of the kids she sees have started coming in with the same rounded-shoulder posture from screen time. Nothing alarming, just worth a mention, and worth building a small habit around.

The snack half of the break

Dates work for the break because they don’t need preparation — no plate, no crumbs across the keyboard, just a couple from a small tub kept on the desk. A five-minute stand-and-stretch with something to eat is an easier habit to keep than a stretch alone.

I buy them from the Dates Fruit range and keep an eye on the healthy food section for anything else worth adding to the desk tub. If this is a habit you’re trying to build at home too, our Contact Us page is open for questions about what to stock.
