Wholesale date prices in Malaysia depend on more than variety and grade. The way the fruit is packed changes the price per kilo too, and this guide is organised around that. The same variety can cost quite different amounts per kilo depending on whether it is listed as a single 5kg pack, a 1kg pack, a multipack of packets or a box.
Every figure below comes from one Malaysian date wholesaler's live price list, checked on 27 October 2026. This site does not set those prices. Malaysia has no commercial date-growing trade, so every date on the list is imported.
How the list breaks down by pack format
The wholesaler had 57 date listings, and 23 of them were in stock on the day of the check. Grouped by how they are packed, they look like this.

5kg packs, where the lowest per-kilo prices sit
The in-stock single-weight packs ran from RM15 a kilo (Mariami A Normal, RM75 for 5kg) up to RM63 a kilo (Medjool Super Jumbo, RM315 for 5kg). Mariami comes from Iran and is a dark, semi-dry, chewy date. The cheapest in-stock 5kg pack of each main variety was:
- Mariami A Normal, RM75 (RM15/kg)
- Safawi A No.2 (Mini), RM80 (RM16/kg)
- Ajwa A No.1 (Small), RM115 (RM23/kg)
- Medjool Premium Jumbo, labelled Palestine, RM280 (RM56/kg)
The one single-weight listing that is not 5kg is Rotab Sukkary Premium, 3kg for RM63 (RM21/kg), and it was in stock. Sukari comes from Al-Qassim in Saudi Arabia and is sold either soft as rutab or drier.
1kg packs for smaller orders
Six of the eight 1kg packs were in stock: Ajwa A RM31, Safawi A RM35, Ajwa AA RM36, Mariami AAA RM40, Ajwa AAA VIP (Large) RM44 and Safawi AAA Jumbo RM45. One pack of each comes to RM231. The 1kg Safawi AA (RM40) and Ajwa VVIP Jumbo (RM55) were out of stock.
In both pairs below, the 1kg pack costs more per kilo than the 5kg pack. The 1kg Ajwa A at RM31 is RM8 a kilo above the 5kg Ajwa A No.1 at RM23 a kilo. The 1kg Safawi AAA Jumbo at RM45 is RM6 a kilo above the 5kg Safawi Premium Jumbo pack at RM39 a kilo.
Packet multipacks
These listings are made up of smaller packets: 12 × 400g, 12 × 500g, 8 × 900g and so on. Only three of the fifteen were in stock:
- Deglet Noor on the stem, 12 × 400g (4.8kg), RM88 (RM18.33/kg)
- Medjool Jumbo, 12 × 500g (6kg), RM355 (RM59.17/kg)
- Medjool Jumbo, 8 × 900g (7.2kg), RM448 (RM62.22/kg)
The other twelve were out of stock: the three 12 × 600g rotab listings (Mazafati, BAM and one with no variety named), four more Deglet 12 × 400g listings, the Deglet 30 × 227g and 20 × 250g packs, Medjool Large 24 × 250g, Medjool Large 8 × 1kg and a second Medjool Jumbo 12 × 500g listing at RM290.
Deglet Noor comes from Tunisia and Algeria. It is golden, translucent and semi-dry, and in Malaysia it is called kurma tangkai when it is sold on the stem. The 12 × 400g pack above was the only one of the ten Deglet listings in stock.
Pouch bags and boxes
All four pouch-bag listings were out of stock: Mariami AA 24 × 200g (RM147), Mariami AA 12 × 400g (RM153), Safawi AA 24 × 200g (RM185) and Ajwa A 24 × 200g (RM221). Each holds 4.8kg.
Both 12 × 500g boxes were out of stock too: Ajwa Jumbo Luxury Box at RM430 and Mariami Jumbo Premium Box at RM235. The one box in stock was the single 900g Medjool Jumbo box at RM70. At RM77.78 a kilo it was the dearest in-stock date listing by weight. Eight of those boxes would cost RM560, which is RM112 more than the 8 × 900g Medjool listing at RM448.
One variety in three formats
Medjool Jumbo shows the pattern best, because it was in stock in three formats at once. The 5kg Premium Jumbo pack cost RM56 a kilo. The 12 × 500g packets cost RM59.17 a kilo, the 8 × 900g packets RM62.22, and the single 900g box RM77.78. Across those four listings, the price per kilo rose from RM56 for the 5kg pack to RM77.78 for the single 900g box.
Every date listing on the list showed a sale price below its regular price, so these are sale figures, and stock changes from week to week.
